Mukesh Goel: AAP, BJP making NDMC 'worthless' body

According to Mr Goel, the BJP, the party ruling NDMC since 2007, is equally responsible for this situation.

New Delhi: Leader of Congress party at North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Mukesh Goel on Monday said that Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government and the BJP at corporation are doing nothing but “deceiving people” in the capital.

Mr Goel alleged that both the parties, AAP and BJP, are collectively busy in making the corporations a “worthless” body.

“While the BJP did not do anything to make the corporations self-reliant, the Arvind Kejriwal government reduced the funds to be provided to the civic bodies under different heads to zero,” Mr Goel said.

When the Delhi government has not released funds under the sanitation head for 2018-19, how will it expect the civic body to pay salaries to its employees, Mr Goel asked.

“Similarly, the government has also reduced funds under various heads such as JJ Colony, horticulture, community centre to zero. The government is taking the credit for regularisation of safai karamcharis (sanitation workers), while in reality, efforts are being made to make the civic body sink into the abyss,” Mr Goel added.

According to Mr Goel, the BJP, the party ruling NDMC since 2007, is equally responsible for this situation.

“In its 12 years of rule, the BJP did not regularise sanitation workers since 1996 or take any concrete steps to make the corporation self-reliant. Though the government has been reducing the funds, the BJP which is ruling the NDMC is keeping silent and doing nothing about the issue,” said Mr Goel, senior most councillor in all the three municipal corporations.
