AAP can't defeat BJP, only Congress can, says Rahul Gandhi

The Congress supremo promised that if his party came to power, he will waive off the loans of all the farmers.

New Delhi: A day after his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held two mega roadshows in the national capital, party supremo Rahul Gandhi addressed a massive public meeting in East Delhi’s Geeta Colony on Thursday.

Seeking votes for his party candidates, he claimed that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would not be able to defeat BJP in the seven Lok Sabha seats, but only Congress can.

Flanked by former city minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, who is the party’s East Delhi candidate, and former city ministers A.K. Walia and Haroon Yusuf, Mr Gandhi questioned why sealing drive was carried out in the city and why GST was implemented across the country.

“This was done by (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi ji to ruin small shopkeepers. Only Congress members were out on the roads to lodge their protest against the sealing. (Delhi chief minister) Mr Arvind Kejriwal just makes excuses and does no work,” he said.

The Congress supremo promised that if his party came to power, he will waive off the loans of all the farmers.

“I will ensure that those farmers who are unable to pay, don’t go to jail,” he said.

He further said that he would ensure there was a separate budget for the farmers. He also promised that under the panchayats, 10 lakh jobs will be created for the youths.

Slamming the Prime Minister for his economic failure, Mr Gandhi said that the strong image of the country in the world was due of its economy, which Mr Modi destroyed with the implementation of GST and demonetisation.

Mr Gandhi criticised both Mr Modi and Mr Kejriwal for saying whatever comes to their mind.
