Three hurt as truck rams into five cars near AIIMS

The truck driver managed to escape and a manhunt has been launched by the police after a case was registered.

New Delhi: Three persons, including a child, and the son of an army officer were injured after a truck ran amock and jumped over the divider near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) causing a chain accident. Five cars that came in from the opposite side of the road were damaged.

The police said that the incident happened at around 1.15 am when the truck, coming from Dhaula Kuan, hit the railing on the ring road near AIIMS and crossed over to the other side.

The truck driver managed to escape and a manhunt has been launched after a case was registered on the complaint of one of the injured, Mohan Gupta.

“We registered a case against the driver of the truck who is absconding and efforts are being made to trap them. The damaged vehicles have been taken into police possession and the truck has been impounded,” said additional deputy commissioner of police, south district, Chinmoy Biswal.

Police said they have suspected the errant driver of being under the influence of alcohol. Beat police officers immediately came to the spot and called an ambulance to take the injured to the AIIMS trauma centre for treatment.

“The case has been registered under sections 279(rash and negligent driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code and we are in search of the absconding offender,” said the DCP.
