Facelift for Delhi's busiest intersection

The flyover had been constructed by the previous Sheila Dikshit government and is one of the busiest traffic junctions in the national capital.

New Delhi: The Mukarba Chowk Flyover on G.T. Karnal Road-Outer Rind Road intersection is set to see a makeover with the Delhi government deciding to beautify it by carrying out resurfacing of roads and repair work of footpaths and signage among others.

The Delhi government’s public works department (PWD) has asked its chief engineer (North zone) to carry out various proposed work including resurfacing of roads, repair of footpaths, signage, railing, and horticulture work at an estimated cost of around Rs 6.9 crore.

“I have been directed to refer to the proposal dated 29.9.2017 for according administrative approval and expenditure sanction of pr. secretary (PWD) for carrying out resurfacing of roads including all roads and slip roads; repair works of footpaths, railings, and signage; and horticulture work at Mukarba Chowk Flyover for an estimated cost of Rs 6,90,73,300,” Vineet Kumar, the deputy secretary of PWD, said in a written communication to the chief engineer (North Delhi).

The flyover had been constructed by the previous Sheila Dikshit government and is one of the busiest traffic junctions in the national capital.

It is also the entry gate for the North corridor of the city. It caters to traffic on the national highway (NH) 1 coming from Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir besides Narela and the adjoining villages.
