Parents worried about EWS admissions

For Savita, there is no other option but to wait for an announcement on the second list as she had applied only in the EWS category.

New Delhi: With no word from the Directorate of Education (DoE) on the second list of nursery admissions under EWS category, parents from underprivileged background who had applied in private schools are left worried about the admission of their kids.

It has been around two months since the first list was released and the Directorate of Education (DoE) till date has not given any information on the second list.

For Savita, there is no other option but to wait for an announcement on the second list as she had applied only in the EWS category.

"It's already May and the academic session has started in some schools. If they don't release the list by May end, our child will lose out on so many classes. We didn't apply in the general category, as we cannot afford it. We were totally dependent on the EWS first list but the name did not come," said Ms Savita, who is a housewife and her husband does temporary jobs. The computerised draw of lots for admission to entry-level classes under the Economically Weaker Section and Disadvantaged Group (DG) category for 2018-19 academic year, were declared in March.

Ms Savita, a resident of Dilshad Garden, said, "even though Mr Sisodia (education minister Manish Sisodia) keeps saying that government schools have improved, there are no good government schools in my area. What is the option for people like us who cannot afford private schooling but want their child to get good education," she asked.

On admissionsnurs-ery.com, an online forum for parent community, many parents have raised similar queries about the release of the second list.

"Even last year the second list had come in June when the session had already started. This year, it looks like it will be later than that also. Parents are worried and the DoE is silent about it,” academician Sumit Vohra said.
