Delhi: 30-year-old man dies after car falls in drain
New Delhi: A 30-year-old man, suspected to be driving in an inebriated state, died after his car fell in a drain in outer Delhi's Alipur, the police said on Wednesday.
Lalit Kumar had gone to meet his wife at her maternal home in Narela where he consumed liquor. He then went to Haryana and there again drank liquor. While returning, he dropped off his friend near Singhu Border last night, a senior police officer said.
When he reached Alipur, it is suspected that he lost control over his car that was hit by another vehicle and subsequently fell in a drain, the officer said, adding there were no eyewitnesses to the fatal accident.
A PCR van spotted the vehicle lying in the drain with its headlights on following which officials at Alipur police station were involved, he said.
After Kumar was pulled out, he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared "brought dead", the police said, adding the post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the alcohol level in his blood.
He was a contractor by profession and is survived by his wife and a son, they said.
