New Delhi: The Delhi police crime branch raided a law firm in Greater Kailash-I area late on Saturday evening and seized at least Rs 8 crore in cash. Of this, Rs 2 crore is in new currency notes. The police called the Income- Tax Department following the raid, sources said.

“The crime branch raided at T&T law firm law in Southeast Delhi’s GK-I area and recovered huge amount of cash in old and new denominations,” said a senior police official.

The T&T law firm in Greater Kailash-I was raided after the police received a tip off. Sources said that it is the highest recovery of new banknotes from Delhi so far. The cash recovered from the law firm was stashed in cupboards and suitcases. The seized cash allegedly belongs to racketeers of black money, sources said. According to them, cash seized from the firm could be to the tune of more than Rs 8 crore.

The Rs 2 crore in new bank notes recovered from the law firm is the highest recovery reported from Delhi since the demonetisation drive was announced on November 8 midnight.  When the police team raided the office, the rooms were locked and a caretaker was present, according to the sources. The police said that more cash is likely to be recovered in the follow-up raids. Details about the owner of the firm has not been divulged by the police.
