Four held for assaulting policemen in Vasant Kunj

Cop beaten up after he stopped speeding car.

New Delhi: Four youth were arrested on Wednesday after they allegedly assaulted a night beat policeman on duty for stopping them after the car in which they were travelling hit a police barricade in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj police station on Tuesday night. After the incident, the four youth had managed to flee the spot.

The arrested are Vishal Sharma alias Tinku, Navjot Sehrawat alias Monu, Harsh Lohia alias Hannu and Yatin Norang. All are said to be 23 years old.

According to the police, the incident took place on Monday night when constable Mohammad Alam was on picket duty along with constables Prithwiraj and Sushil at Masudpur near Malik Hotel. Around 11 pm, an overspeeding Skoda car, that was being driven in a rash manner, came near the picket and was about to ram into the barricades, but the driver managed to apply the brakes in time and the accident was averted.

The constables objected about the car being driven in high speed and warned the driver, who was also accompanied by three-four other men, the police added.

They attacked one of the constables, Alam, who sustained injuries on his left knee while the other two constables were verbally abused by the men, who were in an inebriated condition, he said.

While the other managed to alert the police station and called for additional help, the accused managed to flee from the spot. The constables managed to note down the car number and the police is currently scanning the ownership details of the car. A case under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC was registered at Vasant Kunj South police station.
