BJP using siphoned-off funds for polls: Dilip Pandey
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday accused the ruling BJP of using “siphoned” off funds to contest the upcoming municipal elections after an early outbreak of vector-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
Citing a CAG report, AAP Delhi convenor Dilip Pandey said the BJP-ruled civic bodies spending funds on remedies which didn’t have the approval of regulatory bodies. Last year, the CAG indicted the BJP-run MCDs in its report for misusing Rs 43.45 crore on incorrect techniques and chemicals for fogging, in its failed effort to control the mosquito menace in Delhi.
“The corruption of the BJP-run MCDs has resulted in an unprecedented situation wherein the year’s first cases of dengue and chikanguniya have already been reported between the months of January and March. 79 cases of chikanguniya and 24 of dengue have been reported, which has never happened in several years,” Mr Dilip Pandey said. The CAG report made it clear that the fogging exercise had had no impact.
