Balbir Singh Jakhar bought AAP ticket for Rs 6 cr: Son
New Delhi: A major controversy broke out a day before Lok Sabha polls in Delhi on Sunday, AAP West Delhi candidate Balbir Singh Jakhar’s son Uday Jakhar claimed that his father paid Rs 6 crore to AAP supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for the ticket.
Mr Uday has made explosive claims that his father was neither a part nor associated with AAP in any way. He said his father joined politics only three months ago and had paid Mr Kejriwal for the ticket. He further said that his father was never part of Anna Hazare movement.
According to media reports, Mr Uday said: “He had told me that he paid Mr Kejriwal Rs 6 crore and I had warned him to not do such a thing and align with the tukde-tukde gang.”
Slamming Mr Kejriwal, Mr Uday stated that the Delhi CM only projects a “clean image.” He claimed that he has credible evidence to prove his claim.
While expressing fear that he might be expelled from his family, Mr Uday accused his father of not helping out with finances for his education but making sure he spent crores of rupees to bail out 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused Sajjan Kumar and Yashpal and “pay Kejriwal” for a Lok Sabha ticket.
However, Mr Balbir denied these allegations, saying his son was lying and that they were estranged. He said his son has never stayed with him. He said that after his divorce, his son stayed with his maternal grandparents. He asserted that his son’s move might be “politically motivated.”
“I condemn the allegations. I have never discussed with my son anything about my candidature. I speak to him very rarely. He has been staying at his maternal parents’ home from the time of his birth and I divorced my wife in 2009. She stayed with me for only 6-7 months. His custody was granted to my wife after the divorce,” Mr Balbir said.
“Kejriwal’s teaming up with people guilty of the 1984 Sikh genocide was exposed with disclosures made by Uday Jakhar,” Shiromani Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said.
He added that the Election Commission of India (ECI) should take immediate action in regards to the cash transaction of Rs 6 crore for ticket distribution.
