New Delhi: A 53-year-old woman was strangulated, allegedly by a group of men, including a domestic help who was recently hired, at her house in Southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony in Tuesday, the police said.

Prima facie, robbery is suspected to be the motive behind the incident. The accused tied the other servant as they ransacked the house, took away valuables worth lakhs and killed the woman, the police added.

The domestic help, who facilitated the entry of the other accused, is on the run with his accomplices. The victim, Sarita Jain, lived with her husband Manak Lal and a son, both of whom were away at work when the incident happened.

They live on the second floor of a multi-storeyed house. The incident happened between 11am to 12 noon.

According to Rajan, the other servant who was tied up by the accused, three to four unidentified men came inside the house with the help of the accused servant, who had been hired around two weeks back, the police said.

When Rajan and Jain protested, they tied Rajan up and strangulated the woman. When the woman’s husband arrived, he found his wife unconscious and Rajan tied up. He freed the servant and informed the police.

The woman was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead, the police said.  The accused servant, Roshan, had been employed a couple of weeks ago and his servant verification had not been done. Rajan is being questioned.
