New Delhi: The Delhi Congress has begun its “Stop Politics, Save Metro” campaign in the capital to protest against the latest hike in Metro fares. On Wednesday, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, along with party workers, assembled outside Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and distributed pamphlets against the Kejriwal and Modi governments. He said that both the BJP and the AAP were trying to fool the public by raising their voice against the fare hike.

“The Central and the state government had jointly taken the decision to hike Metro fare and now they are indulging in public drama. Why Kejriwal is trying to throttle the Delhi Metro, which is the pride and prestige of Delhi? BJP and AAP should stop politics and save the Metro,” he said. He further said that they will expose the BJP and the APP on the issue of Metro fare hike. He said that the Congress workers would make people aware of the politics being played between the BJP-led Central Government and Kejriwal’s AAP government in Delhi on the issue.

“Metro has become the lifeline of the Delihities. Lakhs of commuters daily use its service to reach their destination but the BJP and the AAP are doing politics to destroy Delhi Metro,” Mr Maken said. Mr Maken said during the 10-year rule of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, the Metro fares were hiked only twice but the metro fares have been hiked twice in one-year during the rule of the BJP-led Central government and Kejriwal’s AAP government in Delhi.

“Why Kejriwal is not replying to this question,” Mr Maken asked. He said the third phase of the Metro was supposed to have started on a 159 km-long route by the end of September 2016 but for the first time, the entire phase is delayed.
