3 held, cops bust gang of arms suppliers

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of three persons Crime Branch has busted a gang of arms smugglers with heavy ammunition and arms active in Delhi and national capital region (NCR), said the police on Friday.

The arrested persons have been identified as, Prateek Shaukeen (36) resident of Saraswati Vihar, Waseem alias Sonu alias Chikna (28), resident of Meerut and Lalit Kumar Anand alias Lucky (43), resident of Pashchim Pur.  

According to the police, on Tuesday, following a tip off, a trap was laid near Paschim Puri, New Delhi. Around 5pm in the evening, three persons who deal in sophisticated illegal imported weapons appeared in a car. The police apprehended all the three persons.

“Prateek was found carrying a Glock pistol along with 10 live cartridges. Waseem was carrying a 7.65 bore pistol with two live rounds while Lalit was carrying a 7.65 bore pistol with two live rounds,”  said Dr. Joy Tirkey, DCP crime. When their car was searched, two more weapons — one 7.65 bore pistol and one long barrel .315 bore pistol were found along with 45 live cartridges — were also recovered in a bag,”

He added, “The gang supplied a number of weapons in Delhi and NCR region.”
