Bengal BJP leaders observe fast over House disruptions
Kolkata: The leaders of West Bengal’s BJP unit on Thursday observed fast here as part of the party’s nationwide protest against the recent Parliament washout.
The sit-in demonstration, led by BJP’s national general secretary and state in-charge Kailash Vijayvergiya, was organised by the party unit at Mayo Road area in the central part of the city.
“The Opposition parties have resorted to dirty tricks of disrupting the Parliament and spreading canards against the ruling BJP. The are against the development policies taken of the Narendra Modi government,” Vijayvergiya told reporters.
Union minister Babul Supriyo, BJP MP Rupa Ganguly, Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh, senior leader Mukul Roy and BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha were among those who joined the demonstration today.
The state BJP leaders also used the platform to criticise the state government over the recent violence during the filing of nominations for the next month’s panchayat polls.
“Today’s programme was part of our nationwide campaign against the destructive politics of the opposition parties. We decided to include the issue of panchayat polls in today’s programme as democratic rights are being throttled in Bengal,” Mr Sinha said.
