New Delhi: To ensure a safe and secure environment for the 73rd Independence Day celebrations in the national capital, the Delhi police has wrapped the city in a thick security blanket with its police personnel keeping a vigilant eye on each and every activity in and around the city.

National Security Guards (NSG), Army, SPG commandos, thousands of Delhi police personnel, as well as para-military troops have been deployed in and around the Red Fort following an Intelligence alert in the city.

According to a senior police official, with the Intelligence agencies issuing alerts about terrorists using sewer lines and cars to enter areas in and around the Red Fort, market places, buildings, sewer lines, and manholes will be sealed ahead of Independence Day near the Red Fort.

“Around 17 locations have been identified by the agencies where attacks may take place. As a preventive measure, the police personnel are keeping an eye in those areas and they are also conducting regular checks in markets, bus stops, and railway stations,” said a senior police official.

Hundreds of CCTV cameras have been installed in every nook and corner of the Red Fort with troopers operating sniper rifles deployed on the roofs of buildings in the area.
