Traffic challan helps Delhi Police arrest man after eight years

New Delhi: The Delhi police arrested a man after eight years with the help of traffic police challan on Monday. Manish Kumar, a collection agent with a Paharganj-based finance company, was reported missing with Rs 5 lakh in cash around eight years ago. His mother also filed a missing complaint at Karol Bagh police station.

He remained untraceable and the police submitted untraceable report in court and the case was closed. But in November 2016, the owner of finance company moved court and demanded that the case be reopened. The police re-opened the case on court orders and during the course of probe, the finance company submitted details of the vehicle license of the accused as Mr Kumar’s ID proof. With his license in hand, the police traced him to Tri Nagar area.

The police said Mr Kumar had lived with his family in Dev Nagar area of Karol Bagh and was employed as a collection agent with Sun Line Capital Limited, in Paharganj. The company owner Surendra Kumar Jain told police that on August 14, 2009, Mr Kumar and one another employee of his firm went to collect Rs 5 lakh from a businessman in Karol Bagh.

On the way back to office, Mr Kumar stopped the motorcycle on some pretext and asked his co-employee to walk. But all of sudden Mr Kumar started the two-wheeler and escaped with the '5 lakh in cash. Mr Jain filed a FIR against Mr Kumar at Paharganj police station. The next day the mother of the accused also filed a missing person compliant at the Karol Bagh police station.

After reopening the case, the police during course of the investigation came to know that his family has moved to a new place without informing police about their new location. The police finally traced the accused with the help of a traffic challan issued against him and a mobile number, said a senior police officer.
