New Delhi: The famous blue WagonR used by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was stolen on Thursday from right outside the government’s headquarters in the national capital. Mr Kejriwal was not currently using the car, after having it given it up in 2014.

The police said that the car, bearing registration number DL-9CG-9769, was currently being used by Aam Admi Party ‘s (AAP) media coordinator Vandana Singh. The AAP leader’s WagonR was stolen from near Delhi Secretariat.

According to the police, the car was stolen at around 2.30 pm in front of central Secretariat. It came to light at about 3.30 pm when the complainant, Vandana, informed the police control room (PCR) about the incident. The IP Estate police has registered a case and is also reviewing the CCTV footage of the crime spot.

Mr Kejriwal, who has weathered many run-ins with the police, which reports not to his government but the Centre, asked on Twitter about where it’s “dhyan” or attention is focused.

The car, along with Kejriwal himself, made headlines when the AAP boos travel in it while campaigning for the chief minister’s post, which he won in January 2014. The car was seen as proof of Mr Kejriwal’s “aam aadmi” credentials with the Delhi chief minister refusing to use a government vehicle even after assuming office.

Party’s UK-based volunteer Kundan Sharma, a software engineer, had donated the car to Mr Kejriwal in January 2013. After using it during his famous 49-day-stint, Mr Kejriwal gave it to Naveen Jaihind, the party’s Haryana incharge. Mr Jaihind used the car for campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls in Rohtak before Vandana took possession of the car.
