New Delhi: The cashier of a bank was shot dead and three were injured after some unidentified people entered the bank in Dwarka on Friday and fled with Rs 2 lakh, the police said.

The 33-year-old cashier with the Corporation Bank was gunned down by four criminals when he tried to resist them, the police added.

The police was informed about the firing at the Corporation Bank branch in Khaira village at 3.45 pm on Friday.

According to additional DCP Giriraj Singh, when criminals tried to snatch cash from the victim, Santosh Kumar, at gun point in the bank at Dwarka’s Chhawla, he resisted their attempts.

“Two bullets hit him. The robbers escaped with over Rs 2 lakh,” Mr Singh said.

Santosh was rushed to a hospital, but was declared dead by doctors, the officer added.

Deceased Santosh Kumar had retired from the Air Force and was working as a cashier at the bank in Chhawla, Dwarka.

The police said four armed criminals, with their faces covered with masks, came on two motorcycles. They barged into the bank and snatched the security guard’s rifle before threatening the bank employees with dire consequences if they moved from their place.

“The entire crime has been captured on CCTV and efforts are being made to identify the accused,” said Mr Singh.

The accused fled on motorcycles with the looted amount and even took the security guard’s rifle with them. Further investigation in the case is underway.

Last year, the ATM machine of this bank was robbed by criminals. The miscreants had fled with the said machine after having failed to open it. There was Rs 31 lakh inside the machine at that time. The accused even sprayed black colour on the CCTV camera and used a gas cutter to take out the machine from the kiosk. There was no security guard at the kiosk at that time.

The police is still clueless about the accused and no arrest has been done in this regard.

Although Dwarka district in Delhi has now developed into a posh township, some pockets within the district are still crime infested.
