New Delhi: Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) students will teach “fundas” about finance and digital economy to the common people of Delhi NCR.

The financial literacy cell “Vittshala,” which was launched by finance minister Arun Jaitley, has now come into action.

With an aim to reach out to the grassroots level, Vittshala will directly work with villagers under Project Khushhali. About 100 students associated with the cell have started visiting villages and settlements of Delhi and Haryana to help them improve their understanding of various aspects related to microfinance and banking.

They have already received training from State Bank of India (SBI), Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), and Agricultural Insurance Company of India (AICI).

With the help of street theatre, videos, pamphlets, and demonstration, the team has started teaching fundas about finance in a simple language to the people.

The campaign that started on Sunday will continue till December 17 in different locations of Delhi and Haryana. The follow up of this campaign will be taken after 30 days.

A team of students reached Basaudi village in Sonipat district of Haryana on Sunday, where the residents were provided with information about digital economy through a demo and play.

“After reaching the village, we found that the people are eager to learn about new things. People do not have a smartphone. So, transaction based on Aadhar card is not possible but still they can start with mobile banking systems or the USSD feature. About 150 accounts were opened in the village which means that people want to move to savings and digital economy but nobody is there to help,” the team said. These students even took along the SBI mobile van with an ATM facility, account form, printers, and the concerned officials.

The cell also visited the Shakti Nagar Ext-T slum near North Campus and Razapur slum near Rohini to empower the dwellers about managing their finances.

Vittshala has selected 10 SBI ATM counters around DU’s North Campus where the groups of students will give a demo to the people standing in queue about how to prepare a cashless wallet.
