City’s air quality improves slightly
The air quality on Tuesdasy rose to ‘poor’ category as the rains washed off some of the pollutants in the air.
New Delhi: The air quality in the capital improved to ‘poor’ on Tuesday after light rain in the last 24 hours.
The air quality, which was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category on Monday, improved to ‘poor’ the next day as the rains washed off some of the pollutants in the air.
The air quality index, as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), was at 219 and the concentration of ultrafine pollutants in the capital’s air reduced marginally.
The overnight rains resulted in the city witnessing a cloudy morning on Tuesday even as the minimum temperature dropped by five notches below normal for this part of the season to 13.8 degrees Celsius.
The Safdarjung Observatory recorded 7.8 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday. As per MeT forecast, the city is set to see foggy days ahead as minimum temperatures are likely to fall to 8 degrees Celsius this week.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius, one notch above the season’s average. “Delhi might witness dense fog on Wednesday with maximum and minimum temperature expected at 22 and 10 degrees Celsius respectively,” said a MeT official.
