New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Friday sought the resignation of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal owing to the shocking inefficiency and delayed response of the Delhi government’s Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

Mr Gupta said that had the fire brigade respondedon time, the precious lives of four persons, including two kids, could have been saved in the major fire that broke out at Kohat Enclave in Pitampura. He also said that the fire station is situated hardly 800 meters away from the spot, yet the fire brigade took more than 45 minutes to reach there. “By the time the fire brigade reached the spot, most of the damage was done. Therefore, the Delhi government is directly responsible for the tragedy. The CM must resign on account of moral responsibility,” said Mr Gupta.

He claimed that as soon as the incident came to his notice, he reached the site of the accident and condoled the grieved families.

He said the local residents had informed him that the fire brigade was contacted at 2.48 am, but the officers were not willing to leave the station for rescue.

“When the fire service was called again after 10 minutes, it wanted to know if the fire was still raging or if it had been extinguished. When the first fire tender arrived after 45 minutes, it had a very small water pump. It was not capable of making any real difference. The real work was delayed by 45 minutes, thus reflecting the inefficiency of the fire service. The loss of precious lives and damage to property could have been averted had the fire brigade been efficient in responding on time,” he said.
