Three pose as BSES staff, arrested for extortion

Suspecting that something was amiss, the complainant visited the BSES office, Hari Nagar and enquired about the alleged persons.

New Delhi: A police team from Dwarka South arrested three fake BSES employees who used to commit extortion in the name of electricity theft .

The arrested persons include Brij Mohan, Mohit Kumar and Rajeev. Investigation reveals that they entered a complainant’s house posing as BSES officers.

They also showed the BSES identity cards when asked by the complainant. They checked electricity metre and said it showed electricity theft and demanded Rs 50,000 to settle the matter.

According to the police, the accused made several calls on the mobile phone of the complainant to pay the amount.

Suspecting that something was amiss, the complainant visited the BSES office, Hari Nagar and enquired about the alleged persons.

When no proper information could be ascertained, he approached the Dwarka South police station. The cops there immediately filed a case of extortion and took up investigation.

During investigation, the police team obtained CCTV footages and developed the photographs of alleged persons.

The photographs of the accused were shown to BSES staff. One of the alleged persons was identified as Brijesh, a contractual employee, but no record was found about him in any office.

The alleged mobile number used for extortion was also obtained on a fake ID. The police put the mobile number on surveillance.

On the basis of technical surveillance, one of the accused Brij Mohan was arrested, added a police official.

He revealed about his associates, Mohit Kumar and Rajeev, who were arrested. The mobile phone used to call the complainant for extortion was recovered and fake BSES identity cards have been seized.

The accused were previously involved in a case of similar nature which is registered at Rajinder Nagar, Delhi.

Further investigation of the case is in progress and efforts are being made to ascertain their involvements in other cases.
