Woman killed by jilted lover, four held

The woman, who was moved to a hospital in Saket, succumbed to her injuries.

New Delhi: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by a jilted lover in her house in South Delhi’s Panchsheel Vihar. The woman, who was moved to a hospital in Saket, succumbed to her injuries. Police has arrested the prime accused along with one of his associates. Two juveniles have also been apprehended in this connection.

Police said that the deceased woman has been identified as Sonam, a resident of Khirki Extension. The arrested has been identified as Manoj, while his accomplice has been identified as Afroz. The murder weapon has also been recovered by the police from the apprehended juveniles.

According to police, the incident took place in the wee hours of Friday. The deceased, who works in a parlour, had met Manoj a few months ago. Manoj fell in love with Sonam at first sight whereas she considered him only as a good friend. He was further disappointed when she turned down his marriage proposal. However, he continued to stalk her and is said to have even threatened her to marry him or face dire consequences. On Friday night, when Sonam was at home, the accused along with his three accomplices, came to her house and called her out. As soon as she stepped out, an infuriated Manoj took out a pistol and shot at her. She collapsed on the ground. Afraid of getting caught, the four ran away. The incident came to light when Ajit, the victim’s brother, cried for help and moved her to a hospital where she died.

The police was alerted and a team rushed to the hospital. Based on Ajit’s statement, police registered a case of attempt to murder. The FIR was later changed to murder.

A team verified the CCTV footage. Based on their findings, the four were identified and with the help of Sonam’s mobile number, the cops managed to zero in on Manoj. He was arrested on Friday from Tigri in Neb Sarai. On his instance, the team also apprehended the two juveniles. A case has been registered in this regard.
