NDMC set to map properties as part of digital India scheme
New Delhi: Moving ahead with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s digital India initiative, New Delhi Municipal Council is all set for the digital mapping of properties falling under its jurisdiction.
The ambitious project involves developing a digital map which will provide digital name-plates, giving details of residents or business enterprises owning the properties. As per the plan, NDMC will do the mapping of the properties with Unique Smart addressing System for Urban Properties which will generate digital NDMC nameplates, unique for each property under the municipal body. According to a senior NDMC official, some names and places in the NDMC area are very easy to find, but the remaining population residing in not so popular areas or other shops and businesses are not that easy to find.
“This is where digital mapping and the unique name plate will come into play, which can be used by any agency, say the police, the fire department, for home delivery of pizza or anything else. Also, it will provide us with a complete profile of the property,” he said.
The official added that earlier a similar project was being explored by the Hyderabad civic body. A private company will be appointed to do the digital mapping, for which bids will be invited the next week.
Neeraj Bharti, director of NDMC’s IT department, said NDMC would use the map to update its own records, including details of the property owners. “All the geographical information will be compiled and stored for future reference. Public engagement is necessary for this project to become successful, which we hope to achieve,” he added.
