2 killed in separate road accidents

Malik had suffered injuries as his helmet was not buckled when his bike was hit by the truck, the officer said.

New Delhi: A Delhi police constable was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a truck in the Model Town area here, police said on Wednesday.

The constable, Vinod Malik (55), was deployed with the first Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police and was returning home when his bike was hit by a truck on Tuesday night, said a police officer.

Malik was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead, said the officer. The accident took place on the road between Azadpur and Kingsway Camp in Model Town area of north west Delhi.

The truck driver managed to escape from the spot after the accident, police said. A biker who was passing from there at that time, rushed Malik to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.

Malik had suffered injuries as his helmet was not buckled when his bike was hit by the truck, the officer said.

A case has been registered by the police on the basis of an account provided by the biker.

Efforts are being made to arrest the truck driver. The truck is learnt to have a Jammu and Kashmir registration number, police said.

Malik, who was a native of Muzaffarnagar, had joined the Delhi Police in 1982. He lived with his family, including wife and two children at Shahdara, added the police officer.
