Drunk gang assaults constable with bottle

New Delhi: Holi celebrations turned horrendous for a GRP head constable on Monday when a gang of six to seven men in an inebriated state allegedly hit the policeman and smashed a liquor bottle on his head and later pushed him from the stairs. He was assaulted because he asked the gang of hooligans not to drink on the foot overbridge.

When they saw the injured constable calling 100 for help, they brutally assaulted him with his wireless and ran away with it.

According to the police, the incident took place on Monday evening around 7 pm at Shivaji bridge railway station. The injured constable identified as Karanveer Singh, a GRP head constable is attached with New Delhi Railway police. On Monday Karanveer Singh was on duty at Shivaji Bridge. Around 7 pm Karanveer had headed out for patrolling on the station and walked from platform number 3 and 4 towards 6 and 7 when head constable Singh saw a gang of anti-social elements getting drunk and misbehaving in public. When he stopped them, they started beating him up and kicked him off the stairs. The Railway police has registered a case of dacoity, attempt to murder and obstructing a public servant discharging his duties Under Sections 186, 353, 333, 395 and 397 of Indian Penal code.

The police is verifying the CCTV footage and has launched a massive hunt to track down the assailants.

In a other case, a young man, the son of a Delhi Police sub-inspector, sustained critical injuries after he was stabbed allegedly by a group of boys in Southeast Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur on Sunday night. Preliminary investigations have revealed that property was the motive but the police is looking into other angles as well.

The police is questioning two minors in connection with the case. The victim has been identified as Surender. His father Lahore Singh (55) is posted in the PCR unit and lives in Prem Nagar in Lal Kuan area.

Based on Mr Singh’s statement, a case of attempt to murder was registered.
