62-year-old man shot dead by two in Shahdara
New Delhi: A 62-year-old man was shot dead near his house in Shahdara while he was returning home from work. The police said two men on a scooter had fired at least three rounds at him when he tried to resist a robbery bid.
The deceased, identified as Rakesh Kumar Jain, was returning home on his two-wheeler when the two accused, who had been following him, stopped him and asked him to hand over the cash he was carrying, the official said.
According to the police, the incident was reported at around 8 pm on Sunday. The deceased was walking towards his house in Kabool Nagar when one of the two youth pulled out a pistol and fired at him. Though locals claimed to have seen them snatch a bag from Kumar while fleeing, the police found the valuables, including his wallet, intact.
Family members told the police that Kumar worked as a money exch-anger and often carried large sums of money back home. They suspect that the men might have followed him to target the bag full of cash.
When he had tried to resist, they opened fire and fled with the bag. A bullet hit him in the chest.The victim was rushed to G.T.B. Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, the police added.
The accused fled from the spot without taking the box, they added. The victim had been attacked and robbed earlier also. The police is probing whether those men, who were arrested earlier, were involved in this incident.
Cops are scanning the CCTV cameras in the area to identify the killers. A case of murder has been registered at Shahdara police station.
