Delhi police to study causes of rising rapes

Sources said that in order to check increasing cases of rapes and sexual violence drastic measures were required to be undertaken by the Delhi police.

New Delhi: The Delhi police intends to undertake a sociological study of causes of rapes and psychoanalysis of the accused in rape cases. Sources said that in order to check increasing cases of rapes and sexual violence, drastic measures were required to be undertaken by the Delhi police.

Many women and girls in Delhi suffer from gender-based violence like rape, sexual violence etc. Sexual violence is a major cause of death and disability for various women and girls. 

“The research agency will be responsible for identifying the various target groups which would be important to achieve the objectives of the study. However, the target groups will necessarily include people in affected areas The sample expected to be studied will be within a range of 400-1,200 people,” said sources in the Delhi police.

“We are expecting, that through this psychoanalysis study, the police will be able to develop various strategies to help curb these heinous crimes and make the environment safe for our women,” the sources added. 

To analyse the causes of rapes in city, the agency will also be carrying out a survey of people in the affected areas and churn out the perceived reasons of rapes in the national capital. 

Moreover, the agency shall be conducting an in-depth interview for psychological studies and undertake psychoanalysis tests of accused convicts in rape cases. 

The agency shall be undertaking psychoanalysis tests of a minimum 100 accused convicts,” said the sources. Based on the study of various respondents in risk prone  a better understanding of the probable causes of rape can be gathered. 

Various statistical models can be deployed thereafter for analysis of the gathered data to establish co-relations, trends and behaviours. 

The method of collecting information can be circulating questionnaires and multiple interactions with victims, police officials, and accused. ,the sources added.
