131 fresh dengue cases take total to 496
New Delhi: At least 131 fresh dengue cases were reported in the capital in the past one week, as per a municipal report released here on Monday.
The toll number of dengue cases till August 12 has gone up to 496, out of which 251 are reported from residents of Delhi and the remaining from those coming from other states to the capital for treatment.
Notwithstanding the rising number of cases of vector-borne diseases, the Delhi government had last week said there was "no need to panic" and the administration was "equipped" to handle any situation.
Besides, 48 fresh cases of malaria and 37 of chikungunya were also reported in the past one week from various Delhi hospitals.
Interestingly, while over 1,000 cases of swine flu were reported in Delhi and four people died due to it, the city’s health department submitted a status report saying it was prepared to deal with the situation. The season for vector-borne diseases kicked off in mid-July and it generally lasts till November-end.
