Posters promise to ban short dresses, non-veg food in JNU

New Delhi: Posters promising to ban short dresses for women in JNU, close eateries serving non-vegetarian food, and protect the university from “anti-national comrades” have come up on the campus, purportedly posted by the RSS-affiliate ABVP, which has denied issuing them categorically.
ABVP's Saurabh Sharma said, “Left parties are scared of us and hence, this is propaganda against us. We have not issued any such poster.”
“Reduction of opening hours of the central library for girls at night, no extra short dresses and only Indian clothes, no entry of girls in boys' hostel and no birthday celebrations. We will ensure all of this to avoid cases of sexual harassment and molestation,” the poster read.
The posters, which have also gone viral on social media, came on the polling day when elections for posts in JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) were underway.
Other poll promises cited in the poster include “preserving JNU from terrorists and anti-national comrades”, restriction on serving of non-vegetarian food on JNU campus.
Meanwhile, around 58 percent voter turnout was recorded for the JNUSU polls on Friday evening. The candidates and their supporters broke into 'Lal Salam' slogans and danced to the tune of 'dapli' beats. In a last-minute campaigning effort, pamphlets were pressed into the students' hands while they were waiting for their turn to cast votes.
Eight candidates are in the fray for the presidential post in JNUSU polls. The Left-backed All India Students' Association, Students Federation of India, Democratic Students Federation and All India Students Federation have come together to form the United-Left alliance.
