Students, teachers welcome class 10 boards again

New Delhi: The Centre’s decision to revive the old system of compulsory CBSE 10  board exams from 2018 has a majority of stakeholders with positive responses, who feel it would be a rehearsal platform for students appearing for Class 12 boards.

In 2010, CBSE had scrapped the Class 10 board exams while replacing it with the current continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) in 2011, that provides for tests and grading through the year as a means to reduce academic pressure on students.

As per the CCE system, the students were offered a choice to opt either for board exams or school assessment.

But following the demands from students, parents and several states that Class 10  board exams should be reintroduced, Union minister Prakash Javadekar announced the CBSE boards to be made mandatory. However, the Board said it would meet at the end of this month and a resolution is set to be passed for making Class 10 board exams compulsory for all its students.

According to CBSE, more than 65 per cent parents and students and close to 85 per cent principal and teachers, who had submitted their response to an online survey on the CCE system, favored restoration of compulsory board examination.
