2 extortion gang members arrested
New Delhi: Two key members of inter-state extortion racket have been arested. The gang has a unique modus operandi of choosing its prey and extorting money from family members in the name of sending abroad.
The accused were wanted in cases of kidnapping, extortion and murder of Punjab, Haryana and Bengaluru.
A Special Cell personnel of Northern Range arrested the two key members of the inter-state gang of extortionists — Parsram (27) Mitu, (22) — on February 13 from Green Park area near Aiims, while they were coming to meet with gang leader Sunil of Panipat.
The inter-state gang has been operated all over India by pretending travel agents to lure, especially gullible people of rural areas with the promise to settle them abroad.
Members of this gang are in contact with travel agents in the rural area of Haryana and Punjab.
One Sunil, a native of Panipat, Haryana, reportedly heads the gang and both arrested accused are the key members of this gang.
The gang members pretended as travce agents were contacting rural people with the intention to fleece money of them.
They promised the victims of sending them abroad either directly or through smaller travel agents of different states. Once in their trap, they used to shift their clients or targets to other cities and extort money from their family members by making them believe that the victims have reched abroad and were in need f money, the police said.
Following a tip off that two members of the gang would come near Aiims in a Swift car on February 1 to meet kingpin Sunil (his brother is reportedly admitted in Aiims), a special team was formed and it took up position around the area.
At 7:00 pm, the Swift car came towards Aiims, Green Park. After noticing the car halting near Aiims Trauma Centre, the police surrounded the car and its occupants. They were also involved in a case of murder at Bengaluru.
The accused disclosed that they are associated with Sunil who pretended as travel agent and lured the people of rural background to settle them abroad. With Sunil, the duo was in contact with travel agents in rural of Haryana and Punjab. The smaller travel agents from Punjab used to refer such persons to them.
An year before, Sunil and two others took four passengers to Thailand, and extorted '32 lakhs from them. A case under appropriate sections of law has been lodged at Ambala. In December last, they took two passengers to Bengaluru via Mumbai and tortured them for money. In November’ 2017, Sunil and two others took four men to Guwahati and extorted '24 lacs from two families out of four.
