New Delhi: The first list of selected applicants for nursery admission in private schools in Delhi, under the general category, came out on Thursday, bringing relief for some parents, while adding to the woes of others.

Parents whose wards didn’t get selected in the first list are rushing to the schools to book seats in the NCR area such as Noida, Faridabad, Gurgaon, etc.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Apeejay School in Pitampura announced that the admission process for pre-school is withheld for the time being as per an order from the Directorate of Education (DoE).

This comes days after a complaint filed by Sumit Vohra, education activist and founder of admissionsnursery.com — an online forum for parent community. He highlighted the issue that the school is giving 15 points to those who attended Apeejay playschool and to candidates whose parents or grandparents are members or office bearers of the school managing committee.

“They were indulging in backdoor entry and encashing from their playschool. Giving points to children with grandparents, who are office bearers of the school managing committee, is against the high court orders. The school was flouting guidelines and the DoE has taken action,” said Mr Vohra.

Many parents said that they will not wait for the second list and try to secure a seat in the next few days.

“My child’s name did not appear in any of my top choices, not even in the waiting list. I don’t think waiting will be a good option since there is no guarantee,” said a parent, who did not wish to be identified.

He added that even though his child’s name appeared in a school in Rohini, he is confused and not satisfied as the class will have close to 600 students.

“I couldn’t believe that 597 students have been selected. I don’t know how they are going to accommodate so many children; how many sections they will make; and if this will affect the quality of education. The school wasn’t in my list, but I will have to get admission here,” he said.
