Delhi BJP expels 21 party members

Party member and former Delhi University Student's Union (DUSU) president Manoj Chaudhary has also been expelled for anti party activities.

New Delhi: Acting tough against the party leader and workers, who are contesting civic polls as rebels, Delhi BJP on Saturday expelled 21 members including five sitting councillors from the party for six years.

The five outgoing councillors, Dr Pankaj Singh from Ranhola, Krishna Gehlot (Navada), Praveen Rajput’ (Sagarpur West), Sandhya Verma (Patparganj) and Nikki Singh (New Ashok Nagar), were contesting the civic body elections against official candidates of the party.

Party member and former Delhi University Student’s Union (DUSU) president Manoj Chaudhary has also been expelled for anti party activities. A statement issued by the Delhi BJP media in-charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that all the 21 party members were expelled for six years from the party.

For this year’s civic polls, the BJP has decided to deny tickets to all its sitting councillors in the three municipal corporations. “Most of the 140 councillors have abided by the party decision but a section has been involved in anti-party activities.

About nine councillors had filed nominations against official candidates. A couple of sitting councillors have switched over to rival against the party decision,” said a party leader.

Some Congress workers and a AAP sitting councillor in South Delhi municipal corporation Sunita Tokas today joined BJP in presence of Lok Sabha member Meenakhsi Lekhi.
