Woman held for assault on Armyman
New Delhi: A woman was arrested for attacking an Armyman near the Rajokri flyover in connection with a case of road rage on Monday.
The woman was, however, granted bail after she was produced before the court.
A video, showing the woman thrashing the Army personnel on the road while others are stopping to look on, has gone viral on the social media. Following the incident, an FIR was registered and the woman, later identified as Smriti Kalra (44), was caught from her house.
In their complaint, the Armymen told the cops that the incident took place around 1.30 pm when they were on their way to the Nizamuddin railway station from the NSG base in Manesar. The Subedar, who was leading the party, said that the woman overtook them from behind while they were driving down the Rajokri flyover and started driving in a zigzag manner ahead of the 2.5 ton truck.
When the Army driver tried to alert her and honked a few times, she slowed down and refused to allow the truck to pass.
“She kept blocking the way as we tried to overtake her car. After sometime, she slammed the brakes and forced us to stop as well,” said the officers in their complaint.
When the Army truck driver tried to reason with her and walked up to her car, she held him by his collar and slapped him.
The truck driver walked back to the truck and sat in his driver’s seat when the woman stepped out of her car and started slamming her fist on the truck door. All the while she kept hurling abuses at the men.
The commanding officer got off the vehicle and tried to reason with the woman.
However, the woman again held him by his collar and slapped him a few times. In the meantime, a passerby stopped and made a video of the incident.
“We registered a case under sections of preventing a public servant from conducting their duty and assault and arrested the woman from her house in Gurgaon,” said additional DCP (South) Chinmoy Biswal.
