New Delhi: In a bid to beef up the security on the city’s buses, the Delhi government has prepared a detailed project report for the installation of CCTV cameras, panic buttons and GPS tracking devices in the DTC and the cluster buses. Officials said that the process to install CCTV cameras in the buses will be started in November. The government is also mulling to provide Wi-Fi facility to bus commuters.

The tenders for the GPS tracking devices, panic buttons and the CCTV cameras will be floated by the next week. Officials said that in a meeting with the transport minister Kailash Gahlot, it was discussed to provide Wi-Fi facility to the bus commuters. Sources said that the government has made a detailed plan for the installation of the CCTV cameras inside the buses and the tender process is likely to be completed within two months. After this, the IP-based cameras will be installed inside the public transportation buses operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the buses run under the cluster scheme.

Transport department officials said that the Delhi government is working to provide maximum facilities for the safety of the passengers. At present, the DTC is operating 3,750 buses in the national capital and other 1,650 buses are being run under the cluster scheme. Apart from this, the government is also working towards purchasing new buses.

According to a senior transport department official, the consultant appointed to prepare the detailed project report has already submitted the report according to which the tender will be floated by next week. Post which, the tenders are expected to be awarded by November facilitating the process of installation of the CCTV cameras in the buses.
