Nine kids in hospital after rats found in midday meal
New Delhi: Two dead rats were found in the midday meal of a government school in south Delhi’s Devli area on Friday. Nine children, who ate the meal, were rushed to the Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya hospital.
Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia ordered an inquiry into the matter and said that the NGO that distributes the meal to the school will be blacklisted.
An hour after having the meal consisted puri and sabzi, the children began vomiting, following which the students of government boys senior secondary school were rushed to the hospital.
Mr Sisodia reched the school and said that the NGO Jan Chetna will be blacklisted. The minister also said the government will now themselves distribute meals in schools.
“A dead rat has been found in the mid-day meal of a government school in Devli. Nine children have been taken to hospital. I have talked to parents and children. They are doing fine,” Mr Sisodia tweeted.
He added, “We are getting an FIR registered against the meal supplier. We also black list it. We won’t tolerate such carelessness concerning health of children.” The minister added that from Friday morning, the meals will be cooked undert the supervision of the Delhi government officials. The students were from sixth and eighth classes. The sample of the meal has been sent for laboratory testing.
According to the information received, the meal was served in the school at 3.04 pm on Thursday. Guest teachers’ association president Praveen Tobadiya All India condemned the incident and demanded an action against the organisation.
