Godman flees from Rajasthan ashram
New Delhi: Self-styled godman Daati Maharaj, facing charges of raping his female disciple, has fled from his Alawas ashram in Pali. A team of Delhi police’s crime branch had gone to search his ashram on Saturday.
The Delhi police team was accompanied by the 25-year-old victim who showed it two rooms where she was allegedly raped. She had reportedly told the police that Daati Maharaj had raped him on two locations, Delhi’s Fatehpuri Beri where he has his registered office in Mehrauli locality and in the Pali ashram in Rajasthan two years ago. Following her complaint, a rape case was registered against the self styled godman at Fatehpur Beri police station.
An FIR was registered at the Fatehpur Beri police station in South Delhi on June 10. However, the case was transferred to the crime branch on June 12.
Dati Maharaj, the founder of Shanidham Temple in Chhattarpur, had sought time from the police till Monday for surrender, while denying the allegations. He had told in media interviews a day before that he had done nothing wrong and would not run away.
Whenever, the police would summon him, he would present himself before it, he claimed. However, he was not to be seen since Friday evening and on Saturday, when the police reached the ashram with a search warrant, he was not found there. The police has issued a lookout notice against him. in a bid to stop him from leaving the country.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that for last three years his Gurukul ‘Ashwasan Balgram and Public Schol’ was operating without registration. The registration was expired in 2015. the social justice and empowerment department had even sent a notice for renewal but the ashram took no step for it. However, the children welfare committee and the department took no action.
