Huge cache of ammunition recovered, 2 held

New Delhi: The Delhi police has busted an inter-state syndicate of ammunition suppliers and has arrested two accused, one of whom is a post-graduate in performing arts, according to the police.

Deputy commissioner of police (Special cell) P.S Kushwah on Saturday said the cache of ammunition hauled is reportedly the biggest in this year with 1,560 live illegal cartridges being recovered.

The accused were identified as, Prem Singh (37) of Mathura and Alok Shivhare (48) from Agra (UP), he added.

It is worth mentioning that last year too, the special cell sleuths had recovered 1,310 live cartridges from arms suppliers, said Mr Kushwah.

The senior police officer said that in the recent past, the Delhi police special cell had made recovery of huge quantity of illegal arms in Delhi-NCR region and has arrested many criminals in this regard.

However, illegal arms and ammunition and manufactured in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, but surprisingly, none of them have never been caught, Mr Kushwah said.

According to the police on January 13, the police arrested one Prem Singh, who reportedly came to the city to supply ammunition. On a routine check, the police recovered 350 live cartridges from him.

On interrogation, he told the police he had been supplying ammunition to criminals for the past three years. At his instance, one Alok Shivhare of Agra was arrested on Friday.

Whewn he was questioned, Shivhare told the police he had been supplying illegal arms for the past three years.
