New Delhi: In a road rage incident, two assailants attacked a 35-year-old Delhi businessman with an iron rod in South Delhi on Thursday.

Lalit Tageja, a resident of Malviya Nagar, was returning home in his Honda City car at around 10 pm after meeting a friend in Hauz Khas area. When he reached the bus stop at Malviya Nagar, two youth in seemingly inebriated state suddenly came in the middle of the road. To avoid collision, he applied brakes and asked them to move away. At this, one of the youth came towards his car and started arguing. He told them that he had applied the brakes on time and that nothing untoward had happened. He then asked them to let him go. However, the spat turned violent and they started abusing him.

In the meantime, another youth came from behind and attacked him with an iron road. The attacker hit him on his head around 16 times until he collapsed on the spot. Thereafter, the duo fled from the spot. The victim was taken to AIIMS Hospital with the help of a passerby.

“I have got 14 stitches on my head and injury on my arms. I made repeated calls to the police just after the incident, but no contact was made from the Malviya Nagar police station. I went to AIIMS. But due to excessive bleeding, my family took me to Max Hospital in Saket for treatment. Finally, after seven hours, I got a call from an official from Malviya Nagar at 5 am in the morning,” said Mr Tageja.

The police said that based on a video of the incident, which was recorded by the victim, it has identified and arrested two local youth on Friday. The victim has complained that he was hit with a rod and also punched several times in the face.

During questioning, the suspects confessed of their involvement in the case.
