New Delhi: Dusu president, vice-president and few ABVP members along with law students were detained on Friday while protesting outside the office of the Delhi University’s Law Faculty dean Ved Kumari. They were protesting against the detention list of students released on Wednesday over shortage of attendance.

The list includes names of those 550 students who do not have 70 per cent that the Bar Council of India (BCI) asked for. These students will not be allowed to appear for exams that commences from December 20.

The students detained are from all three centres of Law Faculty — 230 from Campus Law Centre (CLC), 191 from Law Centre I and 129 from Law Centre 2.

“The police officials took us away in between the protest and detained us at different police stations. No official notice has been given to the students who have been detained. Infact those VIP students who have never attended a single class, their name is not in the list and have been given admit cards. This is totally unfair and unacceptable,” said ABVP member Mahamedha Nagar.

The students even alleged that some of them were manhandled and brutally abused by the police during the protest.

“The police did lathi charge on the students as well on us due to which few of them were even injured. This is all being done on the directions of the dean,” said DUSU president Amit Tanwar in his facebook post.

DUSU has alleged of discrepancies in the first detention list of second year and the revised list that came out on Thursday evening. “Second list had names of students who said they had attendance well above the requirement. How did the names that were there in the detaining list get disappeared in the next revised list?” DUSU said.

However, the dean maintained that the names in the list were due to a clerical error that will be rectified soon.
