RSS stamp on major Delhi BJP reshuffle

List of the new appointees was released past midnight on Thursday after thorough deliberation within the party and the RSS.

New Delhi: In a major move, newly appointed Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, on Friday, appointed new heads of all the 14 district units of the party in the national capital. A source said that majority of the new district heads have the blessings of the party’s big brother, the RSS. It is learnt that the Union sports minister, Vijay Goel, too had a say in the appointment of some of the new district chiefs.

The list of the new appointees was released past midnight on Thursday after thorough deliberation within the party and the RSS. A party insider said that after deliberation and evaluating all aspects like coordination skills and performance, names for the district presidents were finalised by Mr Tiwari with the consent of the state unit general secretary (organisation).

“Among the 14 newly appointed district presidents, seven are RSS favourites. Mr Goel got about five of his loyalist appointed as district president. Mr Tiwari appointed his loyalist in the two districts falling under his Lok Sabha constituency,” he added.

The state unit of BJP is divided into 14 districts. Each district comprises of five Assemblies and 20 municipal wards. Newly appointed district presidents of BJP are Roshan Kansal (Keshav Puram), Arvind Garg (Chandni Chowk), Ajay Mahavaar (Northeast), Pravesh Verma (Navin Shahdara), Lalit Joshi (Mayur Vihar), Santosh Pal (Shahdara), Bharat Bhushan Madaan (Karol Bagh), Anil Sharma (New Delhi), Vedpal Maan (Northwest), Ramesh Khanna (West), Suman Prakash Sharma (Najafgarh), Azad Singh (Mehrauli), and Mithilesh Singh (South Delhi).

The influence of RSS in the appointment also seen as strengthening the organisation and cadre at the grassroots level with an eye on next year’s municipal polls.

“As per the BJP organisational structure, the district presidents work to mobilise workers and help in other party activities at grassroots level. They play an important part and a link between ground workers, block presidents, and the state leadership,” said a senior party leader.
