Two imposters arrested for duping businessmen

In another case, a gang impersonating CBI officials cheated a cashier of a private firm carrying Rs 5 lakh at Kashmere gate bus station.

New Delhi: In two separate cases, a gang impersonating as Delhi police and CBI personnel cheated two businessmen in the North Delhi area on Saturday.

In the first case, two members of an “Irani gang” were held after they cheated a businessman posing themselves as Delhi police personnel. The victim Manoj Kumar, said that at 7 am, he was stopped by a presentable man in the Fatehpuri area on the pretext of a security check ahead of Independence Day.

The man asked the victim to come to “sahab” who was sitting on a bike nearby. When he asked for their ID cards, the man posing himself as senior police personnel punched him and stole Rs 10,000 from his pocket and another Rs 10,000 kept in his bag. They tried to flee on their bike but a cart blocked their way and they were held and handed over to the Lahori gate police. “The Irani gang members have their roots in Iran,” said a police official.

In another case, a gang impersonating CBI officials cheated a cashier of a private firm carrying Rs 5 lakh at Kashmere gate bus station.

Shailesh Kumar, who works with Kamlesh Kumar Kantilal firm as a cashier, was travelling with Rs 5 lakh of the firm from Kanpur to New Delhi. On Thursday morning at 6.30 am, he hired a rickshaw to reach his office at Chandni Chowk to deliver the cash. When his rickshaw reached close to Novelty Cinema, two men shouted at him to stop the rickshaw. The gang began to frisk him.

The victim said he had told them about money belonging to a firm where he works. After reaching the office he unrolled the jacket, only to find the Rs 5 lakh missing.
