EDMC involved in Rs 5 crore silt scam, says AAP

Mr Pandey said that the AAP will seek a CBI probe into the matter by writing to the agency.

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday accused the BJP-ruled East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) of Rs 5 crore scam related to de-silting of the drains and demanded a CBI probe into the same. The party alleged that the de-silting process, according to the EDMC, continued for three months and the transportation of the silt removed from the drains to the dump yard cost Rs 7 crore, out of which Rs 5 crore were spent during the last week itself.

Senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey said that it was found that during the eleven weeks of the three months, the EDMC had spent Rs 2 crore on the transportation of the silt removed to the dump site at Sinhola border, while Rs 5 crore were spent in the last week itself.

Mr Pandey added that a truck takes about two hours to reach Sinhola border from east Delhi, while according to the EDMC’s records, each truck took only three minutes to dump yard. Taking a jibe at the east corporation, Mr Pandey said that this could only be possible if the trucks were being driven by Shaktiman.

Mr Pandey said that the AAP will seek a CBI probe into the matter by writing to the agency. The party also demanded that the EDMC and the BJP identify the person who committed the scam. Leader of Opposition in the EDMC Kuldeep Kumar said that on the pretext of transporting the silt, a scam of Rs 5 crore has come to fore.
