Govt playing politics over Chhath puja, says Delhi BJP
New Delhi: Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, on Tuesday, expressed doubts over the claims of the Delhi government regarding the preparation of Chhath puja, an important festival of Poorvanchalis, who comprise one-third of Delhi’s population.
Mr Tiwari has alleged that the government is playing with the religious faith of lakhs of people by making preparations for the festival only on pen and paper.
The Delhi BJP president claimed that neither garbage and filth have been removed from Yamuna banks as yet, nor have the Chhath puja ghats been prepared where the festival has been taking place for years.
“Lakhs of people in the capital are preparing for the Chhath festival, which will be held after a week. Instead of making arrangements, the government is busy “playing politics” he said.
Mr Tiwari said, “All the officials have been instructed not to cooperate with the ghat samitis without the tacit approval of the concerned legislator. “The samitis are also being pressurised to put up hoardings carrying prominently the photo of the chief minister,” Mr Tiwari added.
The Delhi BJP chief also said, “Preparation for the puja cannot be left at the government’s mercy. So, I have written letters to all the three civic bodies to provide maximum facilities at the Chhath ghats, especially sanitation arrangements. The BJP workers will also facilitate Shram Daan to help the officials of the municipal corporations.”
