New Delhi: A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Jatav Mohalla in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area on Thursday morning.

While preliminary probe suggested it to be a case of suicide, the family alleged foul play and accused the husband of murdering the woman and later hanging her body.

According to police, information was received at 7 am at the Govindpuri police station about a woman who had committed suicide at Jatav Mohalla.

On reaching the spot, the dead body of deceased Rajni was found lying on the bed in a room. The husband, Sandeep (28), said that he had found his wife hanging by a dupatta (scarf) from the ceiling fan. Sandeep said that he brought her down and removed the scarf.

Since the deceased had been married for less than 7 years, the tehsildar was informed to conduct proceedings under Section 176 of the CrPC.

“A suicide note was also found on the spot in which deceased Rajni had written (in brief) that she is childless and hence she is committing suicide,” said DCP (Southeast district) Chinmoy Biswal.

“Based on the statement given to the tehsildar by Balu Ram, the father of deceased Rajni, a case under Section 498 A, 304 B, and 34 of the IPC was registered at Govindpuri police station. He stated that his daughter married Sandeep in 2012 and was tortured by her in laws. Post-mortem examination was conducted in AIIMS hospital. Local inquiry has not revealed any harassment or torture to the girl so far. Investigation of the case is being conducted fairly and impartially on merits,” he added.
