Remove Aam Aadmi from government campaign, says Vijender Gupta

Gupta will meet the SEC on Monday to demand strict action against the government.

New Delhi: The Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, in a letter to Delhi State Election Commission (SEC) today, has demanded the issuance of directions to the Delhi government to remove or cover the words ‘Aam Aadmi’ from Aam Aadmi Mohlla Clinics and Aam Aadmi Bye Pass Express Bus Service as was done during elections in Uttar Pradesh where the statues of elephants — BSP’s election symbol — were completely covered.

Mr Gupta will meet the SEC on Monday to demand strict action against the government. “Delhi government is ruled by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the party has used the word ‘Aam Aadmi’ with the intention of political propaganda for AAP. This has placed other political parties in a disadvantageous situation in the upcoming elections for the municipal bodies of Delhi.

“This will also have political advantage for AAP, which is against the spirit of the model code of conduct. Therefore, wherever the word ‘Aam Aadmi’ appears in public services, plans, schemes and activities, it must be removed forthwith,” demanded Mr Gupta.

He pointed out that under the model code, the ruling political party should not get political advantage due to its plans and activities.

“Delhi government is running 150 ‘Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics’ in different parts of the city where the words ‘Aam Aadmi’ are prominently displayed in the form of hoardings, bill boards, and banners to publicise these clinics. These should be removed forthwith to implement the code of conduct and to ensure that the ruling party does not have a political edge to influence the people,” he added.
