The decision, however, comes after several rejections and objections raised by a section of students and teachers.

“A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the AC on Thursday. It will be an excellent idea to celebrate Yoga Day on June 21by approving the much-debated course,” a senior university official said.

New Delhi: The JNU is all set to offer a certificate course on “Yoga Philosophy” from the next academic session with the varsity’s top-decision making body finally approving the proposal for the same at the Academic Council meeting on Thursday.

The decision, however, comes after several rejections and objections raised by a section of students and teachers.

The one-year course will be of two semesters during which students will be taught about topics such as ‘Yoga in Bhagavad Gita’, ‘Yoga for well being’ and ‘Yoga tradition–pre-Patanjali and post-Patanjali’.

The “Certificate of Proficiency in Yoga Philosophy” will be offered by the Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies. The proposal to introduce three short-term courses was first floated in 2015.
