Private detective from Delhi arrested in CDR scam

He would allegedly procure CDRs from his contacts in telecom firms.

Mumbai: The Thane crime branch on Sunday arrested a Delhi-based private detective in connection with its probe into illegal acquisition of call data records (CDRs).

The detective, identified as Saurabh Sahu, was instrumental in illegally procuring CDRs from his contacts in telecom companies, and forwarding them to the dozen-odd accused arrested by the crime branch in the CDR case.

A team of unit one of Thane crime branch, headed by Nitin Thakare, senior inspector, arrested Sahu from his Ghaziabad residence late on Sunday. Thakare said, “Sahu was in touch with several of the accused persons in this case. We are questioning him to ascertain the identities of persons who-se CDRs he procured.”

Sahu has been brought to Thane from Ghaziabad to be produced in the magistrate court. He has past cases against him and was arrested by the Delhi police in 2016, followed by the Mumbai crime branch in 2017.

Last week, the crime branch recorded actor Nawazuddin Siddique’s brother’s statement in the case. Earlier, it recorded the statement of actor Jackie Shroff’s wife Ayesha whose name had cropped up in the case. She had named lawyer Rizwan Siddique as having sou-rced CDRs for her. The lawyer is out on bail in the case.

The Thane crime branch has also arrested Ajinkya Nagargoje, Prashant Pate-kar, Jigar Makwana, Samresh Jha alias Pratik Mohapal, Prashant Sona-wane, Santosh Pandhare, Jaypreet Singh Marwa and Nitin Khade in the case. Officials said that Sahu was in close contact with Makwana, Nagargoje and others.
