We will not allow Delhi to become Bangkok: Swati Maliwal
NEW DELHI: The chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal has taken a tough stand against the MCD and the Delhi BJP for the ongoing sex racket in spa centres in Delhi.
Ms Maliwal on Wednesday said that her organisation will not allow sex rackets to function under the garb of spa parlours and will ensure the guilty are punished.
“DCW will ensure all the spa parlours where illegal work is going on will close, all the people who are operating and supporting the sex rackets will be dealt with strictly, we will not allow New Delhi to become Bangkok,” Ms Maliwal said.
The DCW has intensively inspected spa centres across Delhi in the last few days and has exposed a large sex racket. Many girls have been rescued and four FIRs have been registered in Delhi. A large number of condoms and obscene menus were seized from these spa centres.
DCW had summoned senior officers of MCD and officers of Delhi police on September 9 and sought a report of action in the case. Senior MCD officials appeared before the commission and provided the commission with a list of spas being run in Delhi.
They admitted that prostitution rackets are going on in spa centers and should be investigated. They also admitted that boys should not be massaged by girls and that there are many problems with their licensing process.
For example, if a spa licence is cancelled, the spa owner usually renames the spa and obtains an online licence for the same.
During the course of the meeting, Ms Maliwal expressed displeasure over the prostitution rackets being run in the name of spa centres.
She said that the MCD should improve its functioning and take stern action against the sex racket running the spa, and directed them to immediately stop the sex racket in the spas across Delhi.
According to media reports, following the action of the DCW, the South MCD had issued an advisory on the spa centres. But on Wednesday, there was a news in the media that after the intervention of some senior leaders of Delhi BJP, South Delhi Municipal Corporation is not issuing this advisory.
Ms Maliwal expressed her displeasure and took a dig at the MCD, asking who are the people who do not want to allow the action on the sex racket.
